Introduction

Flame Boss recently brought out their first WiFi Thermometer. Note that this is just a thermometer and not a temperature controller like the Flame Boss 500. Although they have similar shapes, they are quite different tools. This WiFi Thermometer only monitors temperatures; it does not control them. That said, let's take a look at this new WiFi Thermometer and see how it performs.

A Few Observations About The Components

If you have ever seen or handled a Flame Boss 500 temperature controller, then you will find the WiFi thermometer to be very similar. In general, it feels solidly built. The unit is water resistant but not waterproof.

The Thermometer

The thermometer contains a display, two buttons, a micro-USB port and four probe plugs.

The unit itself is approximately 4⅛" x 3⅜" x 1⅜" and weighs 6 ounces The button on the left is the power switch while the button on the right is the Select/Backlight button. The unit has connections for a micro-USB charging cable and four temperature probes. There is also a reset button between the third and fourth probe plugs.

Controls

There are two buttons on the front the thermometer. The power button will power the unit on when pressed. To power off the unit, press and hold the power button for 3 seconds.

Pressing the Select/Backlight button while the backlight is off will turn the backlight on for 30 seconds. If the backlight is on, pressing the Select/Backlight button will manually rotate through the temperature readings (if multiple probes are in use). The backlight will remain on when the thermometer is connected to the USB charger. By default, the temperature readings will change to the next probe every 3 seconds. Pressing and holding the Select/Backlight button for at least 3 seconds will pause the display to hold on the current probe. To resume autorotating, press and hold the Select/Backlight button for another 3 seconds.
