The Combustion
Predictive Thermometer Set

Access To Raw Data
There is no access to any graphs or raw data at this time. Combustion's website hints at many features that will be available in the fully functional App, but it is impossible to say how extensive any data presentation will be.

Notes On Using The Combustion Predictive Thermometer

  1. When you first turn on a probe and the Display or your smart device, the probe/App/Display will be in Instant Read mode where the probe reports the temperature only from the tip of the probe. Once you enter a target temperature to start cooking, Instant Read mode is turned off.
  2. Remember that you need to insert the probe at least as far as the minimum insertion line which is etched on the shaft of the probe. We found that the probe worked better, however, if the entire probe was inserted into the meat.
  3. The Combustion probe's readings can be accessed on your smart device via direct Bluetooth or via the Display/Bluetooth repeater The probes and the App figure out the best method available and the connections are made automatically.
  4. It is important to keep the tip of your probes clean. If it is not clean, the probe may not charge. The result will be that the probes won't connect to the App and you won't really know why.
  5. Keep your probes in the chargers so that they turn off and don't run their battery down unnecessarily.
  6. Remember that the readings from the ambient sensor will be an inaccurate reflection of your cooker's actual temperature. This is because the ambient sensor is greatly affected by the temperature of the meat. Early in the cook, the ambient sensor will read significantly lower than the temperature of your cooker. As the cook progresses and the meat warms up, the ambient reading will slowly rise to approach the temperature of your cooker. Depending on how big the meat is and how long you are cooking, the ambient reading may or may not ever reach that of your cooker.

Summary
All in all, we are truly impressed with both the solid Bluetooth® connectivity and range, as well as the probe's ability to produce a reasonable estimate of the cook time early in the cook. Everything we have cooked has turned out exactly as we expected it to. We had essentially no issues during all of our testing and found it easy to set up and use. Again, the BlueTooth® range with or without the Display is excellent. All in all, it has just been a great experience testing this product. Here is a list of our likes and dislikes for this product:

Pros:
  • 8 temperature sensors per probe, versus 1 or 2.
  • 20 minute probe charging time.
  • 30 hour probe battery life during cooking (7 hours in instant-read mode).
  • Great Bluetooth® range and connectivity.
  • Better predictions than their competitors.
  • Charger has charging status LED so you know it's charging, unlike MEATER products.
Cons:
  • Cannot buy just a probe without the Display.
  • Probes have no distinguishing marks to tell them apart.
  • Product is still in very early stage of development. No cloud support, App is painfully basic.
  • Display does not have a magnet to allow you to stick it to a metal surface.
