22. JD is my new go-to lump charcoal. I use it for the Weber kettle, the drum, and the offset. It burns longer and hotter. There are less small useless pieces than other brands, and the charcoal itself seems harder. No foreign objects in it. The longer and hotter burn makes up for the extra cost. It's a buy. (08/01/22) 21. Based on Naked Whiz’s reviews at the time and Amazon Prime’s free shipping, I’ve used JD going on 6 years now in my Primo XL. I counted - thirteen 35# bags. It’s excellent. Consistent medium sized lumps; minimal chips and dust (from shipping); 3 sheet start; very high heat; virtually no sparking, popping; low ash for low slow cooks (10+ hours); medium smoke that lightens over course of cook (I add flavor chips); no foreign objects ever; priced right. I’ve tried Cowboy, Fogo, Primo, KJoe, and others. My Rating 4.7 (4.9 if bagged in paper and US made). (01/22/22) 20. Online purchases were a complete mess because of their poor packaging (plastic bag not paper). Three separate online purchases all arrived split open in multiple places.
The plastic bag can't handle the shipping process. What a mess, there was black dust everywhere. Might be fine if purchased in a store. (01/16/22) 19. Left an over bearing tase in my food. I found this to be some pretty good lump charcoal. It burned hot, long and steady. Produced very little ash. No strong/off odors, debris in the bag or a lot of small pieces.
