The Flame Boss WiFi Thermometer

Audible Alarm and Alerts

The Flame Boss WiFi Thermometer does not have a physical alarm or beeper in it. All alerts and notifications are done via notifications and SMS text messages on your phone. (You can go into the Account section of the Flame Boss App and configure a phone number to receive text alerts.) The alerts that you can receive are:

  • Temperature probes reading outside the range that you have set for each probe
  • If the connection to the thermometer is lost
  • If the battery is critically low
  • Firmware updates (see below)

If you set a temperature range alarm for a probe and the temperature goes outside of that range, you will see a notification and receive a text messasge like these displayed on your phone:

If you turn your thermometer off or if the thermometer loses its Wi-Fi connection, about 12-13 minutes after the connection is lost you will receive a notification like this, but no text message:

Thermometer offline notification

When the battery in your thermometer gets critically low (about 10 minutes before the unit shuts down), you will get this notification on your smart device:

Low battery notification

Good Neighbor Feature

The Flame Boss WiFi Thermometer does not have an audible alarm, so there is no volume adjustment.

Power Interruption Feature

Since the unit operates off of an internal battery, the thermometer should never lose power on its own. If you should turn the unit off and on while cooking, the app will remember any values you have set for low and high temperature alarms.

Built In Timer

There is no built in timer function on the Flame Boss WiFi thermometer.

Firmware Updates

From time to time, the firmware in your Flame Boss WiFi Thermometer may need to be updated. The thermometer checks for the availability of newer firmware levels when it connects to the Flame Boss servers. If one is required, the unit will update its firmware automatically. You will receive the following two notifications on your phone when the update starts and finishes:

The update takes only about 2 minutes, but if you don't want to be delayed by a surprise update, it is possible to disable automatic firmware updates by using the web interface at www.myflameboss.com. After you log on, go to the Profile section:

Select the "Settings" link for your thermometer.

There you will find an option called "Auto update firmware?" which you can then turn off.
